Suryavarman is Expansive for cheaper Workers and Granaries, and also Creative.

They strike me as the best civ for expansion and growth. My own favorite new civ is probably the Khmer Empire. With Boudica having Aggressive/Charismatic, bright red hair and a mean look, who would want to cross her? Including even one new trait would create a large number of unused trait combinations – now, on the contrary, almost all trait combinations are filled. Don’t forget that you can easily rename the latter into Franks, for example.ītS does not include any new civilization traits, and is probably the better for it. The lineup is not perfect, and on the more disappointing side there is the generic Native American civilization and the Holy Roman Empire, for which it’s fairly doubtful whether they were a civilization. Personally, I’m very glad to see the Mayans and Ethiopians make it, as well as the first ever Southeast Asian representatives, the Khmer. This time, we’re given ten whole new civilizations to enjoy playing with, and they’re really a mixed bag. Still, no matter how many features there are, new civilizations are the most visible addition to many players. Playing BtS is really different from playing Civ4 or Warlords, and player strategies will also reflect that. Playing Warlords felt just like Civ4 with a bunch of new civilizations and some smaller stuff thrown in. BtS is very much unlike the Warlords expansion. There are numerous new features with a significant gameplay impact, and then there’s a really high amount of minor tweaks and additions. It does not limit itself to the addition of new civilizations and some big feature.
#Civ 4 beyond the sword leaders series
I have had the pleasure of contributing to this expansion and will now give my thoughts on the finished project.īefore saying anything else, it’s important to say that Beyond the Sword is easily the most ambitious expansion the Civ series has ever seen. Beyond Civ4Ĭiv4: Beyond the Sword is finally about to be released worldwide, to the excitement of the Civ community. You can buy Beyond the Sword from Amazon US or Amazon UK. In this article, Solver, a long-time Apolyton staff member, reviews the game. I suspect that mine is a minority view, but strongly held :O.The second expansion to Civilization IV, Beyond the Sword, has been released. I’ve been playing a fair amount of Warlords lately and its very good. The new leader traits are pretty good, the unique buildings are good, and Warlords generally gives the game more personality. Not because of the scenarios, which IMO are poor, but b/c of tweaks to the units, and especially the greater diversity of opposing Civs. Warlords on the other hand, is a very worthwhile expansion. Again, it adds micro without adding elegant strategic choices. BTS brings pollution back, with a vengeance. Thirdly Civ IV and Warlords had minimized the “pollution micro” from the first 3 Civ games (a sub-game I always hated). Again, corps add a lot of micro and detail without adding enough interesting choices IMO. Second, the new corporation system is clunky and reminiscent of the lame lawyer/preacher stuff from the Call to Power Civ spinoffs.

It adds a HUGE amount of micromanagement and annoyance, and adds very little in the way of interesting choices as a tradeoff. Specifically, the new espionage system is just terrible IMO. Why? There are several mechanics in BTS which basically suck, and very little added that is worthwhile. Personally I play Civ IV with Warlords only and actually uninstalled BTS. I consider BTS to a be a completely broken and unplayable expansion. Wow, I have to really disagree with some of the posts here.
